Refugio Ortega-Carrillo is an Associate Attorney at Abramson Labor Group.
Refugio has worked both sides of a civil case. As a class action associate at a plaintiff-side firm he handled class and PAGA matters from initiation through motions to compel arbitration, mediation, and class certification. Before that he practiced insurance defense, taking general liability, products liability, and breach of contract cases through every stage of litigation.
Compel arbitration motions are how most employment class actions get killed before anyone sees a courtroom. Refugio has litigated them from the plaintiff side and defended cases from the other chair, so he knows what is coming and how it is usually argued.
He earned his J.D. at Loyola Law School, where he served on the executive board of La Raza de Loyola. He is a member of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles.
Outside of work, Refugio writes poetry.
